On September 15, 2026, a workshop to validate the Regional Wildfire Contingency Plan was held in Morondava, Menabe. The plan aims to strengthen coordination between the different actors involved when fires become too large to be managed through routine field interventions.
Planning ahead to respond better
The validation workshop for the Wildfire Contingency Plan for the Menabe region took place on September 15 at EDEN ROCK in Morondava.
The workshop provided an opportunity to present and validate the plan, which was developed to improve coordination between the different actors involved in wildfire prevention and response.
The principle is straightforward: define in advance who does what, who coordinates the response, and which people and resources can be mobilized when the situation requires it.
This type of planning becomes particularly important when a fire grows beyond the usual response capacity of local managers. In such situations, the aim is to facilitate the mobilization of available resources and enable the different actors to work together more effectively.
Coordination at regional level
The plan includes the possibility of activating an Operational Centre at the Prefecture level when a situation requires stronger coordination. The Prefect then coordinates the response at regional level and facilitates access to the resources needed for the intervention.
The PDC is therefore intended to strengthen wildfire response efforts, particularly when the intensity of a fire requires additional support and coordinated action.
The workshop brought together several authorities and local stakeholders, including the Chief of Staff representing the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, the Head of the Menabe Region, Lieutenant-Colonel AUNEZIFORT Philippe, as well as various local officials and stakeholders involved in wildfire prevention and response.
The validation of this plan marks another step towards improving preparedness and coordination in responding to wildfires across the Menabe region.
